LO3 Task 4 Evidence of carrying out a specific production role for a chosen media production

Roles and Responsibilities

Through out our production for unit 41 I was the main editor in post production. This involved finding online resources, reviewing footage and editing the visuals/audio to complete the video to a standard the employer wants. I had to follow a schedule and a script/story boards to do that part of the unit.

This is the evidence that I did the editing. It is an edit log that shows the clips and audio cuts that I have made to create the final version of the product
.
These are screenshots of me editing the final video.
Heres the final video that I have edited.

Undertaking of Additional tasks

Other than being the lead editor I have also contributed to many other parts of the production the other main one was to be the interviewer for our film which meant I had to follow a script and ask the band questions. I also had to just interact with the band in general to create conversation and to make more content and expand on the band in general.

LO2 Understanding skills Needed for the role

Written Communication

In the role of an editor/artist written communication is very important as we would receive scripts and storyboards that we have to base our work on. I have had experience with both writing and following both storyboards and scripts in my previous units such as unit 46 and 41 in which we had to make a music video and a short film where me and a team had to create a complete set of pre-production materials to create our projects.

Verbal Communication

In the role of an editor/artist verbal communication is very important as when the artist/editor needs to be able to understand feedback that he is given by his superiors to change his work to the vision of the director. I have had experience of verbal communication when I presented my unit 41 short film to the band that we made it for.  They gave me their feedback and had me change a few things to how they thought would represent them better.

Practical Production

In the role of an editor/artist practical production consists of expressing the vision of the director by either editing footage or creating original content to expand the visuals of an idea. I have created products in multiple medias making different products with different techniques.

Creativity

Int he role of and editor/animator creativity is key to be able to do the jobs as you need to be able to fill in the gaps that haven't been specified by the director. I have used creativity in almost all of my projects as i had to create my own campaigns and products that I would later present. To my customers and take in their input.

LO2 Job Roles Report

Artist

The key functions of an artist are to be able to visual represent the idea given to him sometimes even have multiple visions of said idea. An artist has got to be open for judging and be able to change the idea shown at any given moment as whats important is what the customer wants and not what the artist thinks is best. The artists is very important for the production as he makes the concept art for the production that gives shape to the whole production.

Editor

The key function of an editor is to combine footage and make it look good. The editor needs to be able to show the idea that the director whats to express throughout the film/video.  The editor needs to know how to edit shots to make them look professional and be able to change the idea/give good ideas. The editor is very important as he finished off the product and makes it complete.

Role Comparison

These two jobs are quite similar a they both have to be quite creative and also be open to feedback from the directors. The artist makes up the visual idea of the film while the editor has to make sure that idea is expressed in the film.
